The 2011 Season started off on a weird note. After word was out Pokorny was suppose to bring a tough team to the table, they showed up with only 7 players, 6 of them women. So Game 1 of the season was a Forfeit. Ironically it was Coke's 100th game and only the 7th forfeit ever in Franchise history. Game 2 looked as it too would become a forfeit until Manager Danbom proposed that Coke lend some of it's players to Pokorny so that the whole evening wasn't a totally wash. And so for the 1st time current Coke members were on the opposing team. Manager Danbom, and player personal director Mr. Carter Fong played for Pokorny.
Coke was the visitors and started off in normal Coke fashion. Brian hit the first Inside the Parker of the 2011 season, as Andrew and Amanda came in and it was 3-0 3 batters in. Newcomer Angelena Mexicano drove all the way from Bismarck to play with the Big Red Machine. And she cemented her legacy early on in her first at bat, as she recorded the first Coke out of the infant season. Pokorny went down 1-2-3 in the first. In the 2nd after Conway led off the inning with a single, Megan grounded out to Pokorny 3rd baseman Carter Fong. Making this out the first Coke player to throw out a teammate. Haley ended the inning by getting riffled out by the hot corner Carter Fong. In the 2nd Pokorny looked to start something at the plate, but Brian Wenko made the play of the game with an over the shoulder catch. Pokorny was still able to get runners in scoring position with Carter Fong getting a basehit and fellow Pokorny teammate Jay Danbom hitting a double, moving Fong over to third. But that was the closest Pokorny got to scoring all game. Andrew lead off the 3rd with a Double. Brian then came up and crushed another inside the parker, this time barely crossing the plate in time, as the tag was applied just as Brian touched home. Coke loaded the bases in the 3rd after Brian's inside the parker, but was unable to score anymore runs. Pokorny again went down 1-2-3. The 4th started out with 2 quick outs for Coke, but Andrew started the rally off with a triple (but was almost thrown out at 3rd). Amanda drove in Andrew with a nice oppo single. Brian Came up again, and yup guess what, another inside the parker. Angelena hit a single and then was drove in by Conway's fielders choice and after 4 innings for Coke they were up 9-0. In the 5th Coke again had another 2 out rally when Haley was drove in by Andrew's double. Andrew and Amanda both came in on Brian's official triple in the books, cause he was hosed at the plate by Pokorny Center Fielder Carter Fong. Brian could've set a team record for most homers in a game, but he loafed! In the end Coke came away with a 12-0 mercy rule victory. Good job Andrew on going 4 for 4 and scoring 4 times. And he was in a pickle, so what's new right? Mickey scored 3 times as well as Wenko.
The wins give coke 19 straight league wins dating back to 2009. That now sits at 2nd all time in consecutive league wins. The play of the entire evening was, Andrew convincing the new softball league runner guy to let us store my old fullsize grill in the storage hut.
